What is the best weapon to kill Rennala? ›

Mix sword spell with actual sword

There are several swords among Elden Ring's best weapons, and jjshotgun said that for their successful defeat of Rennala they "used the sword spell along with an actual sword" to take her on, mixed with a "melee summons" of Banished Knight Oleg.

This boss is weak to Bleeding, and the passive effect of this weapon builds that up. The standard damage of the weapon isn't particularly great, but activating Bleed damage takes out huge chunks of HP at a time.

Your character's overall level matters, but it's ultimately not going to be a deciding factor. For the Rennala fight, we recommend upgrading your weapon to +7/+8, and level up your character to 40-45.

You can summon player companions in for this fight, and it might be a good idea to do that, as you'll see with the first phase of this fight. Lastly, there isn't an NPC summon available for this encounter, though your spirit summons will help immensely. I recommend using the Godrick Soldier Ashes or Lone Wolf Ashes, as they're both effective at interrupting Rennala's spellcasting. Regardless, save your Spirit Summons until the second stage of the fight.

Just as with the Red Wolf, we recommend using the Carian Knight Armor, as it has fairly high magic defense for its weight category, and it's light enough that you can probably incorporate pieces (or all) of it into your loadout fairly easily. It's available near the Church of the Cuckoo site of grace.

9 Carian Knight's Shield

This is a godsend for facing Rennala (and many other spellcasters in the game), but the shield does ask for 15 intelligence to be wielded. If you meet the requirements, you'll be able to brush off most spells simply by blocking, letting you close the gap against those pesky spellcasters.

Rennala is weak to bleeding and physical damage. Use blood weapons against her. Magic is a no-go.

Rennala is mainly weak against Bleed.

In the second phase, Rennala has a lot of attacks that she uses from time to time. Most of the attacks do not do much damage or pose any threat; however, the Energy Orb and Energy Beam can decimate your health if you are not too careful.

She also has the same resistance values to Poison, Scarlet Rot, Hemorrhage, and Frostbite. So you can try to exploit these status effects atleast once during the fight. Rennala is immune to Sleep and Madness as well, so you will not be able to exploit these effects against her in any way.

Is Rennala a hard boss? ›

Though this Elden Ring boss is certainly not scaled for end-game builds, when encountered at the appropriate level, she can make for a major headache. Rennala's summoned companions make up most of the difficulty, requiring players to fight multiple enemies at once, while simultaneously dodging magical barrages.

Your reward for defeating her is the Remembrance of the Full Moon Queen, and the Great Rune of the Unborn. After the battle you will be returned to the original boss chamber where you can speak with Rennala to change your appearance, and respec your character if you have a Larval Tear.

Defeat General Radahn (& Other Major Bosses)

One answer to where to go after Rennala is other demigods, the most feared of which is arguably General Radahn. However, players only need two Great Runes to access Leyndell, and can just as easily head towards Morgott, the Omen King instead.

Killing Rennala gets you multiple great rewards - 40000 Runes, the Remembrance of the Full Moon Queen, and the Great Rune of the Unborn, which we'll explain momentarily.

While Rennala isn't as difficult as the three mandatory bosses that precede her, she is a bit of a glass cannon. Here's how to finish her off quickly.

She is highly resistant to magic damage, so in phase 1 use your melee weapon infused with just plain physical damage, or even better use something that inflicts bleed. If you have it, rock sling works great against her in phase 2, I wouldn't try doing it with your magic damage dealing spells.
